Now Walmart and I are hassling over a warranty issue ( 2 versus 3 years )
Here is the text of my online review.....

I was told when I purchased the 2 year coverage that it began when the manufacturer's coverage ended.  The manufacturer warrants 1 year so I expected year 2 and 3 to be covered by Walmart.  Now I am being told this is not true.  Worse yet is that Walmart is not responding to my emails.  I will have to trudge into Walmart and waste more time.

I sent the following message to Walmart and have not received an acknowledgement.
#1    I never choose to use the phone and wait on hold forever ... or get transferred many times.  I always want to use an online option ... that is easy to find , knows who I am ( I have a logon account that I used ).

#2  Why doesn't *this* feedback form use my account information ?

#3  If I go to Customer Service at a store, I want them to use my online account to sort out problems , issue refunds , reorder stuff.  Customer Service is too slow.  Some of it can be done while I am waiting in line using WiFi.

#4  It would be great to set up my visit to *online pickup* ahead of time so that I can just go to customer service and grab my item.  *Online Pickup* is often a "ghost town" .... nobody there.

I have not received any response from Walmart other than promotional emails suggesting I spend more money at Walmart..  Truly parts of their customer service are simply awful.  

I bought a hard drive from Walmart and they promised free shipping via Fedex.  Then I learned that the last leg of the delivery was via USPS.  As you know may know, USPS is not the brightest light bulb in town.  My package disappeared into limbo for several days and then luckily re-emerged at my door.  I used to love the idea of buying online from Walmart.  But I have not been pleased the last few times.

One is constantly reminded by events of how childish political leaders are.  Putin in Russia and various American politicians act like the Ukraine is some playground and the inhabitants are plastic legos ( TM ) that can be tossed around , set on fire and then be buried.

There are some very positive things that the USG and the POTUS can do.

#1   Start shutting down NATO.  This will reduce tensions and have the added benefit of reducing government waste ( $$$ ).

#2  Invite Ukrainian entrepreneurs to a big love fest in various US cities.  Drop travel restrictions.  ( Do NOT have USG spend $$$ )  Start eliminating barriers to doing business with US companies. ( For everyone , not just Ukrainians )

#3  Invite Putin and Russian entrepreneurs to the love fest as well.  Apologize for past insults to Russia.

#4  Invite the world's entrepreneurs to the love fest.

Possible scam from GeekSquad

I recently received a solicitation from *The GeekSquad* inviting me to renew coverage on a computer that GeekSquad never covered in the first place.  This looks like a thinly disguised attempt to trick an owner into *renewing* coverage they never had.  It is one thing to offer a service to a prospective customer.  It is unethical to pretend there is already a relationship.  In addition, the fine print suggests you will not be getting the coverage a reasonable person would expect.

Voting supports Mob Rule

 All of the time... I hear .... vote ... vote .... vote ... it is a godly thing ... It is the duty of an informed citizen..  No ... No .... No .....  Voting is none of these things. 

#1   Voting is meaningless ....  ( especially at the Federal level)  ... most of the time a single vote has no impact on the results.  A voter does not know what the results of a vote will mean.  Politicians ( especially the POTUS ) twist in the wind and lie about their future agendas.  Bureaucrats and regulators do as they please and ignore the voters.  Judges interpret laws and the Constitution as they wish.  They come up with very imaginative interpretations.

#2  Most voters are trying to game the government system.  They hope to get *stuff* from the government that exceeds what they pay in taxes , fees and inconvenience.  They don't care to think about who is being punished for them to get their *goodies*

If you love freedom , individual actualization , creativity , productive living ......   then work to eliminate the government , the parasites , the pirates , the control freaks, the leeches, the killers, the takers of prisoners, the slavelords.  All manner of slimy behaviour is encouraged by the government.  And thus, all manner of slime supports the government.

My Mother listens to me politely when I rage about the state.... about state sponsored killing and theft via taxes and the curtailment of freedom.  And I talk about how the brightest , most productive people are handcuffed by regulations and ground into the dirt by small-minded bureaucrats.

And I know what she is thinking ...... " what a waste of time and energy ....  why don't you chill out, Gus.  I get a Social Security check and the police have always been nice to me.  What is your beef... really ?  You pay your dues and then the government takes care of you .... "

So today she calls me.  Comcast has sent her 7 cease and desist emails.  She is accused of violating the Digital Millennium Act.  Someone she does not know has used bit-torrent to send her 7 baby pictures.  These pictures are for a friend to look at.  She does not know who the baby is, does not know the parents , does not know what bit-torrent is, .......  The pictures included an MP3 song called "That's My Kid" .... Now ComCast is threatening to pull her digital plug.

So I am supposed to fix this for her....  Take care of something she now thinks is *unfair*.  Oh yes ..... I am grumpy today.

I went over to Mom's today.  Someone had installed bitTorrent on her MacIntosh back in August of 2013.  Someone had turned on the wireless with no protection.  I turned off Torrent and defeated auto-start.  I turned off the wireless.  Now I realize I should have checked if anyone had turned on remote control of the the  Mac.  Duh......  Now I have a project for Friday.

My Zeus !   .... i am awaiting more details .... when I was in High School  40+ years ago .... I and my friend made pipe bombs & rockets and  pellet gun machine pistols. Yes, we smoked marijuana.  not much.  We drank beer.  not much.   It is often a matter of perspective.

According to a criminal complaint, police found one pound of atomized magnesium and one pound of Chinese potassium perchlorate along with a package labeled potassium nitrate powder. They also found fuses and several containers of compressed air.

When asked what he was going to do with two devices that were found with exposed fuses, Miftakhov said "he was going to blow things up," the complaint alleges.

Miftakhov later said he only intended to set devices off in a field and wasn't going to blow anything up, the document says.

      Very similar to what my friend and I did many years ago.

Authorities found five marijuana seedlings and a grow light, the complaint says.

I can imagine the unpleasant existence that VM is experiencing in jail.  Some jails are annoying and some are hell-holes.  I wonder how well VM's appointed attorney is representing him.  I also fear that drugs may be forced on VM..... and even worse he gets routed to a mental facility where it is in their vested interest to hold him forever.   Recently I read about a kid around ten years old who was being mis-diagnosed with ASD who now may graduate from college at age 14. ==>  http://ow.ly/t3dIP

more than one *subject* can be processed each time  .....   pets can be euthanized at the same time .....

All or Nothing
The prosecutor ( Orange County District Attorney Tony Rackauckas ) seems to have conducted an *all or nothing* trial.  I can imagine that the officers did not intend to kill KT.  It is clear from the video that they were poorly trained ( or ignored their training ) .  They badgered KT , threatened him , assaulted him with overwhelming force.  Possibly they would have been found guilty of assault, etc.  They should be banned from police work and injunctioned against using physical violence against humans.  I wonder if the prosecutor was *playing a game* with the jury.  Very strange.

No Double Jeopardy
Many are calling for Federal charges.   No.... There should be no more criminal charges against the two officers.  The remaining officer still remains at risk..... I do NOT think the Feds should intervene.  Civil action against the officers seems possible.  Suitable results would have the officers pay the civil damages.... not the taxpayers.  Can civil action include firing the officers ?  Banning them from police work ?  Can the authors of the police training be sued ?  I hope so.

The amygdala is a part of the brain that existed in prehistoric man ( person ... to be politically correct ).  I like to call it the lizard brain or the dinosaur brain.  Back in 1,000,000 B.C. ( did you see the movie with Raquel Welch ? ) the way to survive was as follows:
= Live in a tribe  ( best form of protection )
= Distrust strangers   ( they don't trust you )
= Make decisions for the short term   ( why worry about the future when a dinosaur would eat you today ? )
= Make snap decisions .... based on very little data   .... skin color , sex , mannerisms, hair style , costume , age , etc.  ( why not ?   we don't have time or tools for anything better )
= Don't think too much... reflection takes energy and we are starving
= Count on your family   ( selfish genes ? )
= Emotions define reality  ( who has time to analyze ? )
= Leaders are magical  ( they bring good fortune .... not bad luck .. just ask them )

The amygadala was useful in prehistory but now it is not so useful.  It reinforces tribalism and racism and xenophobia.  Lot of fantasies exist because of the amygdala.

The Future

I apologize .... my comment was very hit and run ..... Here is what I believe.
  Genetic information does not reveal anything to suggest that human might be grouped by race.  Race was an idea invented before genetic science emerged.  Race was based on one of the axioms that emerges from amygdala , lizard brain thinking.  That is the axiom that strangers are dangerous.  In the good old days ( 1,000,000 B.C. ) your tribe was your survival.  Those outside the tribe were danger.  Your tribe members resembled each other because of inter-breeding.  People did not get around much in those days.  Thus the concept of race slowly developed.  It was based on using very superficial methods of measurement. 
  Presently ( 2014 ) people are still very much amygdala driven.  They still very much believe in the idea that races exist.  The idea is so ingrained that people are not even aware it is an emotional construct.  Race is viewed as a *fact*.
  I try to think like a Martian who has just come to earth and is looking around.  I would think that there was one race of humans with a wide variety of colorations, sizes , behaviours , etc.  I don't see races of humans.  If the Martian did  .....  he might base it on suits versus non-suits.  Or the hairless versus the very hairy.

One concept is tribalism.  Part of tribalism is identity with one's tribe and fear/hate of strangers.

Many who live in America say "My side tortures."  "My side is exceptional"  "Support our troops"  These statements are based on identifying with the tribe "America".  This is a logical fallacy because one cannot reasonably form a tribe out of 300+ million people.  The range of philosophies in such a group is staggering.  Feeling responsible or feeling proud of what America does fails at two levels....
 #1 "America" cannot do anything.  Only individuals ( or perhaps small groups ) can do things.  One group from America may do something and another group from America opposes it.  So it does not mean anything reasonable to say " America tortures "   or "America is exceptional".  It is a form of jingoism.
#2  If an individual ( American citizen ) does or thinks something , it is not reasonable to suggest America is a clone of that person.  Nor is it reasonable to hold that person responsible for "something that America does or thinks".

( This applies to other countries and other imaginary groups as well.... such as blacks ,whites , hispanics , liberals , conservatives, Democrats , Republicans, etc. )

I understand the impulse to say
"Our Broncos lost the SuperBowl"
"Our troops are the best"
"Liberals are idiots"
"We tortured and killed people"
"The Japanese would have used the atomic bomb"
etc.

The problem is that in each case individuals are grouped together who have no substantial relationship or responsibility to each other. Using such shortcuts makes the amygdala happy ... at the same time it makes accurate , reasoned discourse difficult.

Comcast seems as bad as it gets

I have the opportunity to see Comcast policies up close for the last 5 years.
Comcast is an example of just about everything a company can do to act unethically / ineffectively.

Adios to an Employee
Comcast recently fired a friend of mine who had worked in Customer Support for 5 years.
The firing was done with no advance notice.  There was no severance pay.
There was no explanation given.  The friend was given 10 minutes to leave the premises.
My friend was often rated #1 in customer satisfaction.  She had high scores for solving customer problems during their first phone call.  Compared to other customer support agents, her support calls lasted longer on average.  She frequently got a *burst star excellent rating* for first call resolution.
 She had just qualified for an additional week of vacation each year.

This appears to be the reason she was fired.........

Metrics
Comcast is big on metrics.  They measure lots of things about customer support calls.  They constantly discuss these metrics with their phone support people.  They constantly coach their customer support people about how to behave on the phones.

Here are some rules.....
Rule:   Never hang up on a customer
Rule:   End the call as soon as possible
Rule:   Don't make the customer angry
Rule:   If service was down for more than 4 hours , credit them for 24 hours off bill.  Customer loss was irrelevant.
Rule:    If customer sounded suicidal , offer them $20 off their bill.
Rule:    Do not attempt to resolve any issue that was not directly due to Comcast


Once per month *birthday* people got a cupcake.

Zimmerman trial brings out lots of cats and dogs

Siren Song
When a vehicle with a siren drives down the street , the dogs start howling and the cats run for cover.  The Zimmerman trial is like that siren........

Firstly, let me state that I think that Zimmerman was careless and foolish.
#2  The evidence does not support a conviction for murder or manslaughter.
#3  Zimmerman should not be exposed to double jeopardy.
#4  Zimmerman should have all his rights respected.  ( perhaps the jury could have restricted his gun-toting   hmmmmm )




United Nations
Jesse Jackson is calling for U.N. intervention.   No thanks.......   the U.N. is is one of the most corrupt organizations on the planet.

ACLU
No thanks... the ACLU seems to have gotten on the *poor innocent black child* bandwagon.  The ACLU wants to pursue the *hate crime* trajectory.  I have no use for the hate crime concept.

NAACP
No thanks.... since I feel that conventional wisdom regarding race ( that it exists ) is wrong..... I have no interest in supporting the existence of the NAACP or it's theories and plans.

No thanks.... Giles seems to believe that no one can have any doubt that Zimmerman acted in a brilliant fashion.  Apologies to Giles if I got that wrong.




Sophonts
It is time for sophonts to rededicate themselves to using their higher brain functions, reserving the amygdala to having a good time.   They will focus on individual liberty , non-violence and promote self-actualization.
Juries serve a very fundamental purpose and we should promote jury nullification, 12 person juries, expansion of jury knowledge / participation , scaling back of voire dire , reduction of judicial power.......

Obama crackup while POTUS

I predict that Barack Obama will resign or be pushed from office before the end of his reign as POTUS.  Some will call this a mental breakdown or a crackup.  I think it will be a positive event for Obama.  I think he is of at least two minds ( split personality ? ) at present... and he will become more stressed in the continuing months. He is a puppet after all.  Sometimes being a puppet is just too hard.

One of his minds says... Wow... being POTUS is good... look at all the cool things I get to do and say.  He is surrounded by yes-men    egged on by sycophants   whispered to by supplicants  .... *yes you are good*  

A second part of his mind hearkens back to his earlier days when he was trying to do the right thing.....  he was a constitutional scholar , he recognized the importance or individual freedom , self actualization.  This second part is making a comeback and it is tormenting him.  I can see it in his speeches ..... starting in 2013.

I wonder if his amygdala will run screaming from it's place in his brain-case.
