Nuclear lessons learned

I would advise all nuclear power plants to be examining their preparations for dealing with possible tsunamis, earthquakes, planes crashing and anything else they can think of. What has happened in Japan is a set of lessons in what to do and what not to do.
One should also assume that the surrounding infrastructure ( roads ,water supplies, power , people .... ) will be trashed after a disaster.

Offering a carrot to Gaddafi

I think it would be more effective to offer Ghaddafi a "golden prison" somewhere in the world. It could even be in Libya. He and his supporters would be guaranteed a safe and pleasant place to live. They would have to give up all heavy armaments. They would have money to spend.

If Ghaddafi turns down this offer then he would be targeted for removal from Libya to stand trial. No sanctions ( sanctions hurt the innocent ) , no drones ( usually kill the wrong people ), .......... A bounty would be placed on Ghaddafi's head ... deliver him to a UN court. The bounty would be very high and would not include paying for a dead body.

Japan is too insular

I like the Japanese and I like nuclear power ..... the combination of the two is both good and bad. It appears that Japanese engineering is pretty good. Remember that these plants are about 40 years old. The plants held together pretty well. They did not allow for a tsunami. That was something that will now be taken into account.

The worst part however .... is the do it ourselves nature of the Japanese. They ( the government ? ) are being too secretive and they are unwilling to use the vast resources available to them from the outside. It is doubly troubling because the events unfolding could affect people outside of Japan.

Someone who is expert on Japanese culture can probably explain it.

Nobel Peace Prize would gain some legitamacy

Look at past winners ..... Obama ( worlord ) , Yasser Arafat ( Terrorist ) , Mother Theresa ( Abuser of dying humans )

Assange ( WikiLeaks ) would be a winner that truly was interested in WORLD PEACE. Tell me how their efforts lead in any other direction ? You may call Assange an asshole or a publicity seeker or worse.... expose of secret plans that belong to war-bringing nations can only make things better.
