How to fix U.S. manufacturing ? Big Picture

I read a blog entry by Paul J.Heney with interest ....
http://www.pneumatictips.com/2769/2013/02/featured/looking-down-the-road-at-manufacturing/

Paul is a smart good looking guy and has lots of influence.... so I was worried when he said that we should look to the government for solutions.

#1 Government programs have a high failure rate... often the only winners are the friends of the politicians...     The record of the government is pretty mediocre and most of the folks who take government jobs are at the low end of the bell curve.

#2 Academics are a major source for great ideas.  They often suffer from the myopia of having a safe job..... no *skin in the game* so to speak....  Check out what  Nassim Nicholas Taleb ( author of *The Black Swan* )  has to say...

#3 Why focus on U.S. manufacturing ?  We are now a world economy and should look at what is best for all of humanity... the greatest good for the greatest number.  This is not at odds with making people in the U.S. successful. Not in the long term anyway.  It is time for sophonts to escape tribalism and thinking controlled by the amygdala.   Free individuals........  free information ....... allow the flow of ideas, money , creativity unimpeded by nation states and grasping politicians.

#4 Please consider directing your readers to look at privately funded efforts such as Singularity University or Khan Academy. or similar.  This is the age of the internet, the cloud.....

Unlocking Cell Phones  see the big picture

Read this link for some background.

A cell phone is hardware.... it really exists in meat-space.  It can be owned.  The owner should be able to use it as a cell phone.  The owner should be allowed to saw it up with a chainsaw.  The owner should be free to drop it in a spinning food processor.  The owner should be able to move the phone to another network.

If the phone is leased... then someone else owns the phone.  They can dictate how the hone is used.

If someone has signed a contract ... then they should be held to it's terms.  The terms should be made very , very clear and not be designed to trick the customer.  If trickery is employed... then it is fraud.  I have heard a salesman say ...... "don't worry about the small print.. you will not have to abide by the small print"   This is fraud because the saleswoman is not going to be around later to absolve you of any agreements you violate.

The government ( at any level ) does not have to have a dog running in this contest.  There is nothing here for the government to have to sort out.  And many of us know that the government makes issues more convoluted and poisonous than they were to start with.

Free people are polite , courteous , honest ........   anarchists are free
