I am truly sorry to disagree........ for some people...ask me how I
know... there is not another prescription... there is not an effective psych ward ... there is just muddling through...... and keeping your head down and your mouth shut....
And why is that ?
Because there are well-meaning people ( and some who are not ) , that will take over your life and make it a living hell. Not being able to make your own lousy choices is the worst thing that can happen to some people.
The biggest problem is.... that once you are on someone's ( or some organization's ) radar , you may not be able to choose to go back into the closet. Sure... being open is a wonderful thing.... as long as you are surrounded by people who value personal liberty and self-actualization.
So the next time you offer some advice about "coming out of the depression closet" or " you ought to see a professional" .... maybe you are wrong. Maybe you are being selfish.

Sorry Matt
You can't see inside someone's mind and tell if they are better off being alive rather than being dead. My uncle was a very bright guy and he began suffering from dementia. He shot himself dead because he could not stand being dumb. Don't tell me he did not have the right to make that choice. An acquaintance of mine had a choice of taking chemicals to fight cancer or just taking pain killers. He chose pain killers. Another acquaintance is different: he would have to be dragged kicking and screaming to death. He has diabetes, has had two replacement kidneys, infections too gross to talk about. That is his choice and right. ( although it is costing taxpayers plenty of $$$ )
Stretching out a life may cause pain or pleasure to the individual. It may cause pain or pleasure to those around the individual. Don't imagine that you should be put in charge of making that choice for someone else. You are not that smart. You will never have all the facts.
Some people seem to be driven by a fear of death. They are so driven that they interfere with other people's freedom / liberty / pursuit of happiness. They demand laws and force to control others.
