Nuclear power ( and other technologies ) should stand on their own two feet

Nuclear power ( and other technologies ) should stand on their own two feet.

Nuclear Power should be built by private enterprise if it is cost-effective. There is nothing impossible about looking a current safety records for power production and waste storage and determine what a private enterprise should be responsible for.

If we can avoid the hysteria that surround asbestos abatement ( which is way over the top ) and contaminated apples , then the invisible hand will do the job. Not perfectly , but better than the other methods being employed.

I suspect nuclear power will do quite well when compared to wind power, sea power , hydro-electric ( we are out of rivers to destroy ) , coal ,oil ,etc. Ultimately solar power will do quite well as technology advances ( look at trees and plants ) but for now it is not good enough.

Anyway, get out the way ==> government .... quit wasting our money and making bad decisions and killing us.

Unions : Born into them

Person X made a great comment... there are union members who never voted to be in a union.. It was decided before they were born. I love that. Of course, they could have chosen to take a different job. Person X went on to say that perhaps we non-unionized folks should charge more when we do something for someone who belongs to a union. Tit for tat .... very mature behaviour.

The USA is sort of like belonging to a union. You were enrolled before you were born. When people vote for the POTUS , the winning candidate always gets a number of votes less that 50% of the total qualified voters. For Obama , it was around 35%. That suggests to me that we de-certify emperor Obama and manage the country is some new way.

Secession is patriotic

The USA has become a bloated , vicious , super-dinosaur of a country. Smaller would be better.

America is a failed experiment

Too large, America has failed to bring the blessings that the founders envisioned.

Japan Nuclear Disaster Where are all the cool tech toys ?

Where are all the cool toys ? Miniature and larger sized ground based robots for looking at bad places ? Devices with treads and cameras that relay images and other data back to humans ....

Where are the remote controlled blimps , fixed wing aircraft and helicopters ( and multi-rotor helicopter platforms ). These carry cameras and other sensors ?

There may be detailed photos of the status of the reactors.... I have not seen any.

What's up with that ? What about the big budgets of news agencies ? Are their remote devices being kept out ?
