The MAGNIFICENT Ron Paul .... doomed to lose

Ron Paul is the by far the most outstanding major politician of the last 100 years.  And he is doomed to failure.

WHY ?

#1    Too old
#2    Not handsome enough
#3    Not a smooth, oily orator
#4    Too consistent
#5    Too considerate , too moral , too realistic
#6    His enemies will do ANYTHING to defeat him   ... including using designated losers to attack

In his favor, he is the only senator or congressman to hit a home run in the annual charity ball game.

Tea Party causes cancer, global warming and sunspots

I note this week that the Tea Party is being blamed for all the evil in the world ........ This may be true.  I don't particularly like the TP ......... and who is to know what is and is not a Tea Party axiom ?????

I am pretty sure they did not cause the US  credit rating to be lowered.   That took the work of millions of people and over 200 years.
I am pretty sure they did not invent racism.   I think that took billions of people and about 1,000,000 years.
I am pretty sure they are causing sunspots and pulsars and black holes.  Anyway prove they are not.
I am pretty sure they are responsible for Medicare , Medicaid and Social Security fraud and failure.  I certainly was not the US Government.
But the main thing about some TP members ( just some ) ......... They talk about freedom   How boring ... who wants that ?

OBAMA wins again pulls tar baby out of hat

Obama essentially faced the GOP down and got most of what he wanted.  Now if the economy prospers , he will easily take credit.  If the economy tanks , he will easily be able to blame the GOP and the Tea party.  Taxes are scheduled to increase automatically at the end of 2012...... Obama will not even have to take credit for tax increases unless he wants to.

I hate Obama more than any president that I have personally experienced.  But I have to say ..... Bush I , Bush II , Clinton are not far behind.

I think the USA is going to implode .... but perhaps I underestimate the creativity and productivity of the American people ( and by that , I do not mean citizens )

I expected a "Norway Slaughter" for a long time

For lots of details see :   http://www.salon.com/news/norway/index.html?story=/news/feature/2011/07/25/breivik_norway_terrorism&source=newsletter&utm_source=contactology&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Salon_Daily%20Newsletter%20%28Not%20Premium%29_7_30_110

I am amazed it took this long for a competent planner with twisted ideas to successfully kill a lot of people.  I expect to see more of these kind of events.  I don't support the killer's philosophy or choice of victims ( or that he should have done it at all ) ..... I admire his ability to plan .... keep his mouth shut .... and do it.   Even so.... his 80+ victims score pales with respect to the killing done by the governments of Norway, the USA , the UK , Iran , Iraq .......... the list is endless.

Perhaps politically motivated killers in the future will be more focused ..... kill IRS agents , kill politicians , kill police , kill Medicare recipients ,  kill Jews, kill Christians , kill ????   and maybe some of these killers will get away with it.   For a good read , see the book "Unintended Consequences" and check out Henry Bowman.

OBAMA wins the smooth talker award

I am impressed.... really very impressed..... I watched Obama last nite ( Friday  2011m07d22 ) talk about the US debt negotiations.  Obama is smoother than Clinton.... he is the smoothest talker I have ever seen.  This does not mean I buy his arguments.  Still.... it is rather disconcerting to start to slip under the spell of Obama's rhetoric ....  then suddenly jerk awake as I detect one of his falsehoods or one of his sophomoric paradigms regarding economics, ethics or freedom.

How to cap at the current debt ceiling whooooo ha

Stolen from the internet:
Let's start with the basic numbers. According to the Bipartisan Policy Center, the U.S. Treasury will have about $172.4 billion in revenue in August that can be applied to $306.7 billion in outstanding bills. If the U.S. Treasury is forbidden from borrowing any additional funds, it will therefore have to cut total August spending by about $134 billion, or 44 percent.

Pretty easy for me to figure out.....
The USG cuts 44% from  every invoice ... and them we start prioritizing and shifting the cuts around.

I would start with the military.  Ship everyone home and cut $750 billion out of the over 1 trillion spent on war.  ( That comes to 63 billion per month )   I would keep payments and care for damaged veterans.
Goodbye NASA, BATF, IRS, EPA, Education, Highway , farm subsidies, retirement for government employees ( including the POTUS , senators, reps, .....)   In one day I could strip a lot of pork.  What fun.   Also goodby to 100% of all regulations.  Let's just start over.

Should cops be allowed to use cameras, GPS, no knock ?

I think it is pretty simple.  Anything the government is allowed to do ... anyone should be allowed to do....

No knock raids on police stations, federal buildings.... camera/audio surveillance of government activities....  wiretapping, intercepting emails......   etc.

The World Health Organization has projected that by 2020, major depression will be the second-most significant cause for disability in the world, after heart disease. Along with psychotherapy, the disorder is usually treated using antidepressant drugs. There is often a frustrating trial-and-error period involved in finding the right drug for the right person, however, while side effects can include obesity, sexual dysfunction, and fatigue ... to name a few. Los Angeles-based company NeuroSigma is now looking into an alternative drug-free therapy, that could ultimately incorporate electrodes implanted under the patient's skin.
In an eight-week clinical trial conducted last June, researchers at UCLA externally stimulated the cranial trigeminal nerve of patients who suffered from depression. This was accomplished by attaching two electrodes to the skin of each subject's forehead, which were in turn attached to a mobile phone-sized stimulating device. The external Trigeminal Nerve Stimulation (eTNS) process reportedly resulted in a 70 percent reduction in symptom severity during the trial, and a subsequent 80 percent remission rate, with none of the side effects associated with antidepressants.
The technology is licensed exclusively to NeuroSigma.
Last month, findings were presented on four more subjects from those trials, including functional neuroimaging PET data. It was determined that even brief exposure to eTNS increased blood flow to regions of the brain associated with depression and mood regulation. "These findings of a potential mechanism of action support our original hypothesis that electrical stimulation of the trigeminal nerves, located in facial skin tissue, can provide a very safe and effective means to send signals to key structures deep in the brain, thus providing a high-bandwidth pathway to the brain without current penetrating directly through the skull" said UCLA's Dr. Ian Cook.
A twenty-subject, double-blind second phase of the trials began this February, and should wrap up late this year.
NeuroSigma is meanwhile continuing development of eTNS, while also working on a version of the system that would utilize implantable subcutaneous electrodes. Known as sTNS, patients who responded well to eTNS could choose to switch over to it. The technology could also possibly be used to treat epilepsy and post-traumatic stress disorder.

Jurors should be number one

 Jury Slavery   Jury Slavery

I've done my best to avoid the Casey Anderson trial, though as usual, I am biased against the prosecution. But I heard yesterday that the jurors will have spent about seven weeks for this government trial. The judge is paid; the lawyers are paid; the court clerks and guards are paid. They are all there voluntarily.  Jury "service" should be paid, and voluntary, too. How about a per diem equal to the judge's? Governments love to spend money, so frugality is not the reason for conscripted, unpaid jurors. I think this practice is seen as keeping the jurors from becoming uppity. All the more reason to reform this evil practice. Oh, an all hail jury nullification.

The thoughts above from LR are great..... I would want to add that Jurors should have the following perks .........
#1   They can insist on evidence being developed about the case
#2   They can submit questions to the witnesses
#3   They get to listen to all Judge/ lawyer conferences
#4   They are selected at random from a pool of people who have volunteered to be jurors.  Once selected they can decline.  They cannot be dismissed except for conflict of interest.
#5    To convict requires 12 unanimous jurors.  Less than 7  jurors voting guilty results in acquittal.
#6    They can read anything, research anything about the trial.
#7    The lawyers can present any material they wish .... including jury nullification.

Trials would have time limits.

Treating Airline customers fairly forget about rights !!!

The last thing I want is more USG intrusion into matters best left to the airline industry and flyers ......
This is a site worth checking out .... http://www.flyersrights.org/index.php
I would never advocate more government regulations.
The first thing to do when flying is to not depend on the airline or the USG for anything.......

#1 Check the safety record of the airline , check the frequency of tarmac events.
#2 Bring food and water on the plane
#3 Look at a lawsuit if the airline does something really bad....   don't sweat the small stuff.
#4 Do NOT allow the airline to make you a prisoner on the aircraft.........

Stay Cool ..... Troops

By DAVE LINDORFF
The United States Military is spending $20.2 billion a year for air-conditioning the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Read that again please: $20.2 billion just to provide air-conditioning for our troops in these two desert countries.
How much is $20.2 billion?

The snippet above had me laughing all over again.  People who love the war circuses that the USA puts on across the globe would argue that "nothing is too good for our troops" ........ including getting their arms and legs and heads shot off ..... including economic hardship when they come back to the USA .... including psychological damage from being in a war zone......   indeed , nothing is too good for our troops.

Obama rails at the rich and fat cats "bring them down" he says

Obama rides around in Limousines and has body guards.  He has multiple luxury jets.  He has many servants.  He throws fabulous parties.  He can jump to the head of any line.  People stand up when he enters a room.  He does not have to pay for golfing, skiing, sailing, ............  He does not pay taxes on most of his benefits.  He has a fabulous pension.
Is he a fat cat ?

Going out with a bang ............ bang bang bang

Below is described an organization that gives dying kids a last chance to take a whack at something.  I have no real objection .... it just strikes me funny that this is what a dying kid would want to do.  How about this as an idea ???   We get a bunch of dying people who are still mobile ( maybe in wheelchairs ) and we set them loose on each other in an especially designed combat zone.  There could even be handicapping to make it "fairer" ...........

When a dying kid's wish is to kill

Tina Pattison is in the wish-granting business. As president and founder of the nonprofit organization Hunt of a Lifetime, Pattison helps kids with life-threatening illnesses fulfill their dreams of shooting their first elk, or moose or boar. If your son is dying and wants to visit Disneyworld, well, she can't do anything for you. But if your son wants to go out in the wilds of Maine with a high-powered rifle and bring down a really big bear, Pattison's the woman you want to see.

Some thought experiments

Below are some thought experiments

#1  Imagine two plots of land that are right next to each other and are identical as can be accomplished....... same acreage , same amenities .......  except :
Plot A has the full advantages of America ... police protection, fireman protection , taxes , regulations , protection from terrorism, etc.
Plot B has no goodies .... no taxes, no police protection ( police will not come on the land ) , no fire protection, no protection from terrorists , no inspectors , no emergency medical services, ..........

Plot A sells for X dollars...... what will Plot B sell for ?

#2  Imagine a planet where the intelligent beings ( IBs ) develop robots and technology to take care of nearly everything...   farming, manufacturing, gardening , fixing internet crashes, creating additional robots, fishing , running restaurants .....  The planet has 100 million IBs of varying skills and creativity.  What do they do ?  Do they have jobs ?  Do they toss the robots ?

#3  You are transported to another dimension for a short visit.  Lucky for you, the translator box you have works really well.   You wear a big sign that says "GUEST".  You are having a lot of fun partying and hanging out.  Your "GUEST" sign means no one messes with you.  When you travel on the super-fast rocket trains or fly to another country on the orbital sonic Xcraft , you do not have to wait in the long lines.  Your hosts get to skip the lines too.  They get free access to the best food, the best entertainment, the best resorts and hotels.  So you ask them ..... " How come you get all the goodies ? "  They tell you that a small group  ( 10% ) are chosen at random to be special and get most of the benefits.  Once someone is chosen , they are top dogs for the rest of their lives.   Your visit ends and you can stay or leave.  If you stay, you pick a stone out of a hat.  One stone is white, the other nine are black.  If you pick the white stone, you are "special".  If you pick a black one, you join the "not special" and you will be waiting in lines and following orders.   Will you stay or leave ?

to be continued .......

Let Gaddafi have a hole to crawl to... stop the killing

A group of 17 leading Libyan football figures have announced their defection to the rebels.

They include the nation's goalkeeper, Juma Gtat, three other national team members, and the coach of Tripoli's top club al-Ahly, Adel bin Issa.

Mr Gtat and Mr bin Issa announced the group's defection to the BBC during a late night meeting in the rebel-held Nafusa Mountains in western Libya.
(snip )
The above is encouraging news   .... now if Obama and Hillary and others would leave Gaddafi a way to withdraw without martyrdom   .... that would allow the killing to stop and the treatment of CG would suggest to other villains that one way out was to stop their villainy.
