Many Americans are looney when it comes to sex

Many in America ( including many in the media ) seem obsessed with sex.  And they seem to have an obsession with sexual abuse and punishment.  If this group can link any kind of crime with sex ( or make sex a crime ) .... they simply quiver with desire to punish the infractioner.   They enter a mind state that I don't care to examine very closely.  There is an amazing fear of sex.  Of sex somehow permanently destroying a life.  One time an you are spoiled goods and mentally damaged... forever.

I don't share the desire to connect sex with anything other than pleasure.   I find sex pleasurable.  I don't think that a crime that also includes sex should be multiple times more heinous.  I am very dubious about statutory rape.  I do not think a sexual activity damages a human for the rest of their life ( regardless of the age ).  I have this position because I do not conflate sex and violence.   They may occur at the same time..... but they are not the same thing.  Nor is sex a power game .... although they may occur together.

The laws dealing with child pornography have aspects that are totally, totally insane.  It is incredible that one can go to prison for many years for looking at an image .... or possessing an image.

Note that a non-violent offender was given 32.5 years by a jury.... reduced to 21 years. Expensive, insanely punitive , vindictive ... I am sorry I was not on the jury. I would have voted for acquittal.  ( and I have been a juror on a trial for sex related charges.  It ended in a hung jury. )

USA has a great engine but a lousy set of drivers

America is exceptional because of many of the people who live and work in the USA. At the same time there a lot of leeches that are dragging their feet and slowing the economic jauggernaut that is America. And worst of all, there are a lot of hands on the wheel that should just let go. Completely incompetent pilots like Obama, Congress, Federal agencies, etc ......... These idiots have big plans .... plans that will drive the semi-truck that is America into walls, other nations, off the road and into the mud. They are are so stupid and having so much fun SOPM ( spending other people's money ) that I am sure they are having full-blown hallucinations. Obama is so unqualified to guide the USA. So was Bush1, Clinton , Bush2, etc........... The USA is way too complicated for anyone to manage it .... only those who think they are god even try. Ex-US President Jimmy Carter has flayed the US and South Korea for withholding food aid to North Korea which he said amounted to violation of human rights, reports said on Thursday.

Briefing reporters in South Korean capital, Seoul, after wrapping up his three-day visit to Communist North, Carter said Pyongyang badly needed food imports.

"One of the most important human rights is to have food to eat, and for South Korea and the US and others to deliberately withhold food aid to the North Korean people is really a human rights violation," he said

The secretive state had encountered a severe famine in the nineties following the collapse of its economy and damage to crops. Since then, it has largely depended on outside help to tide over its food shortage.

As for the talks with North Korea's 'supreme' leader Kim Il Jong, Carter said although he did not meet Kim personally, the latter had sent word on Pyongyang's willingness to hold talks on any subject without pre-conditions. Most importantly, Kim had reportedly conveyed his readiness for meeting South Korean President Lee Myung-bak.

Carter was accompanied on his visit by former Finnish President Martti Ahtisaari,former Norwegian head of state Gro Brundtland and ex-Irish President Mary Robinson--members of the "Elders" group set up by South African leader Nelson Mandela in 2007 for fostering global efforts towards peace and humanity.

This is Carter's second visit to North Korea in less than a year. During his previous trip to the North in August, the octogenarian leader had managed to secure the release of American, Aijalon Gomes, 31, detained for illegally entering the country.

Carter though returned Thursday without Jun Young-su, an American national held in North Korea for allegedly carrying out missionary work there.

Meanwhile, the US State Department has termed Carter's trip as strictly private. South Korea's Foreign Minister Kim Sung-hwan too said he did not expect the visit to deliver a breakthrough.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Just like the whole Steroid Era: We'll never really know.

Even the one charge that left Barry Bonds a convicted felon didn't specify steroids.

Instead, a federal court jury found the home run king guilty of obstruction of justice Tuesday for giving an evasive answer under oath more than seven years ago. Rather than say "yes" or "no" to whether he received drugs that required a syringe, Bonds gave a rambling response to a grand jury, stating: "I became a celebrity child with a famous father."

The decision from the eight women and four men who listened to testimony during the 12-day trial turned out to be a mixed and muddled verdict on the slugger that left more questions than answers.

U.S. District Judge Susan Illston declared a mistrial on the three charges that Bonds made false statements when he told a grand jury in December 2003 that he never knowingly received steroids and human growth hormone from trainer Greg Anderson and that he allowed only doctors to inject him.

I view wind farms with caution

I am not certain that the impact of wind farms and wave farms on local climates is well understood. I much prefer solar and nuclear solutions. Solar and nuclear can be made with very few moving parts. While I love moving parts , they are are more fragile than solid state stuff.
