Leaders of the "Free World" show usual klutziness

I use the term "Free World" with sarcasm since for the most part inhabitants in an FW country slave for their political masters. FW puppet masters use the finesse of a large blind dinosaur to stamp on situations they don't like. In Libya , the FWPM bomb things and the hell with where the civilians are. If Ghaddfi is the problem , then eliminate *him* and his ilk using either the carrot or the stick. Use precision. Be accurate. Don't indiscriminately bash bystanders.

And of course .... ignore any wrong-doings by your buddies. Like by Saudi Arabia. Don't bother to pretend to help the cannon-fodder in Bahrain. How I hate FWPMs and indeed all dictators and oligarchs. Don't want 'em dead .....; just de-powered and unable to hurt anymore people.

Nuclear power ( and other technologies ) should stand on their own two feet

Nuclear power ( and other technologies ) should stand on their own two feet.

Nuclear Power should be built by private enterprise if it is cost-effective. There is nothing impossible about looking a current safety records for power production and waste storage and determine what a private enterprise should be responsible for.

If we can avoid the hysteria that surround asbestos abatement ( which is way over the top ) and contaminated apples , then the invisible hand will do the job. Not perfectly , but better than the other methods being employed.

I suspect nuclear power will do quite well when compared to wind power, sea power , hydro-electric ( we are out of rivers to destroy ) , coal ,oil ,etc. Ultimately solar power will do quite well as technology advances ( look at trees and plants ) but for now it is not good enough.

Anyway, get out the way ==> government .... quit wasting our money and making bad decisions and killing us.

Unions : Born into them

Person X made a great comment... there are union members who never voted to be in a union.. It was decided before they were born. I love that. Of course, they could have chosen to take a different job. Person X went on to say that perhaps we non-unionized folks should charge more when we do something for someone who belongs to a union. Tit for tat .... very mature behaviour.

The USA is sort of like belonging to a union. You were enrolled before you were born. When people vote for the POTUS , the winning candidate always gets a number of votes less that 50% of the total qualified voters. For Obama , it was around 35%. That suggests to me that we de-certify emperor Obama and manage the country is some new way.

Secession is patriotic

The USA has become a bloated , vicious , super-dinosaur of a country. Smaller would be better.

America is a failed experiment

Too large, America has failed to bring the blessings that the founders envisioned.

Japan Nuclear Disaster Where are all the cool tech toys ?

Where are all the cool toys ? Miniature and larger sized ground based robots for looking at bad places ? Devices with treads and cameras that relay images and other data back to humans ....

Where are the remote controlled blimps , fixed wing aircraft and helicopters ( and multi-rotor helicopter platforms ). These carry cameras and other sensors ?

There may be detailed photos of the status of the reactors.... I have not seen any.

What's up with that ? What about the big budgets of news agencies ? Are their remote devices being kept out ?

Nuclear lessons learned

I would advise all nuclear power plants to be examining their preparations for dealing with possible tsunamis, earthquakes, planes crashing and anything else they can think of. What has happened in Japan is a set of lessons in what to do and what not to do.
One should also assume that the surrounding infrastructure ( roads ,water supplies, power , people .... ) will be trashed after a disaster.

Offering a carrot to Gaddafi

I think it would be more effective to offer Ghaddafi a "golden prison" somewhere in the world. It could even be in Libya. He and his supporters would be guaranteed a safe and pleasant place to live. They would have to give up all heavy armaments. They would have money to spend.

If Ghaddafi turns down this offer then he would be targeted for removal from Libya to stand trial. No sanctions ( sanctions hurt the innocent ) , no drones ( usually kill the wrong people ), .......... A bounty would be placed on Ghaddafi's head ... deliver him to a UN court. The bounty would be very high and would not include paying for a dead body.

Japan is too insular

I like the Japanese and I like nuclear power ..... the combination of the two is both good and bad. It appears that Japanese engineering is pretty good. Remember that these plants are about 40 years old. The plants held together pretty well. They did not allow for a tsunami. That was something that will now be taken into account.

The worst part however .... is the do it ourselves nature of the Japanese. They ( the government ? ) are being too secretive and they are unwilling to use the vast resources available to them from the outside. It is doubly troubling because the events unfolding could affect people outside of Japan.

Someone who is expert on Japanese culture can probably explain it.

Nobel Peace Prize would gain some legitamacy

Look at past winners ..... Obama ( worlord ) , Yasser Arafat ( Terrorist ) , Mother Theresa ( Abuser of dying humans )

Assange ( WikiLeaks ) would be a winner that truly was interested in WORLD PEACE. Tell me how their efforts lead in any other direction ? You may call Assange an asshole or a publicity seeker or worse.... expose of secret plans that belong to war-bringing nations can only make things better.

George Soros gets it half right on Middle East

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-12643419

George Soros thinks the wealth must be spread around. And the US should engage with the Middle East. He is probably thinking Obama should make a speech.

Instead

What should happen is that political leasers should butt out. Individuals from richer nations should tweet, FB and email their Middle East brethren showing support and empathy for their fight for freedom. We don't need no stinkin' leaders to do this for us.

The freedom seekers should be constantly reminded that there are models besides democracy ( mob rule ... USA ) and oligarchies ( USA , UK , China ....... )

Smaller is better ..... the large a governmental unit becomes , the more hubristic the leaders who seize power become. This is a chance for the Phase X human to start to emerge and adopt the IPP paradigm that Donald Boudreaux espouses.

Speed limits for driving experts and the IPP swarm

As you drive the nations ( USA ) highways and byways , you will notice that the posted speed limits reflect two agendas ..... #1 The master plan of ethereal traffic flow experts & #2 The desire of government to collect revenue.

As many of us know ... an expert is an unknown drip under pressure. Such pressure must have affected their minds because the speed limits posted by experts seem to bear no relationship to the road the limit is addressing. If we were to understand... then mayhap , we would be experts.

Suddenly , the speed limit drops to 20 MPH. The reason ? A photo radar van is lurking a possum toss further on. Or a law enforcement professional ( similar to an expert ) is waiting behind a bush. Suddenly , you find yourself owing the government a substantial sum of money. All to protect some chilluns that might dart into the street. I raised smart chilluns who know what a road contains. Perhaps Darwin's law should be allowed to operate in this situation.

If I were in charge, I would turn the determination of speed limits over to the IPP* swarm. These are your ordinary drivers who can figure out what a safe speed to drive is and that it changes as conditions change. Now all I have look for are the crazy drivers who deviate significantly from the IPP speed.

IF we did this, what we we do with all the unemployed experts and sign painters ? Perhaps they could be utilized to polish our cars.

Education is too important to leave to the government

Here are some points I would like to make ........
( by government , I mean local , state and federal )

#1 The government screws up 90% of what they propose and collect ( forcefully ) money to do.
Why let them handle something as important as education ?
#2 The government has an interest in programming children to love the government.
Why let them handle something as important as education ?
#3 The government has a track record of lying , stealing , lying , torturing , lying , killing , lying , abusing .......... did I mention the government is full of liars ?
Why let them handle something as important as education ?

I want to thank Sheldon Richman, Jacob Hornberger , Donald Beaudroux and others for their ideas.

Bitching fast wireless communications means ........... ?

== Apple invented ( <== hyperbole ) the idea of Lightpeak.

http://gigaom.com/apple/intels-light-peak-was-apples-idea/

== But a bigger game changer is wireless connectivity.
http://www.zdnet.com/blog/btl/forget-intels-thunderbolt-wireless-usb-is-the-game-changer/45670?tag=nl.e539

to: Jason Hiner
I agree with your assessment of wireless USB. I would like to add that I would prefer wireless Lightpeak. That means one protocol... LightPeak ( ThunderBolt ) that connects everything....
better than USB ( peer to peer ).
Hurray for Personal Body Computing ( PBC ) ( note : think of a better acronym )

gus in denver 99gus

So the ultimate kickass next great thing ( hyperbole ) is the PERSONAL BODY NEXUS ......

Located on the individual is a powerful computing and storage center ( CSC ) that steals power wirelessly to recharge it's energy storage devices. Or maybe it has a nano-nuclear reactor.
This CSC can reach out wirelessly ( using wireless Thunderbolt WTB ) to link up with displays, projectors , keyboards , 3D mice , eyeglass displays , phones , cars , houses , other people , headphones , .......

This is the cyberspace ( floating around the individual ) that Bruce Sterling , Rudy Rucker, and other cyberpunks described.

Clear the roadblocks..........

No one has a "right" to other than liberty and the pursuit of happiness

No one has a right to a working car

By Gus in Denver March 3, 2011 - 4:12pm

Customers will have to demand cars that can be repaired. I recommend they do so. If they do not then they will get increasing IP laden cars with mystery functions. Cars seem to be moving away from the paradigm of the "Land Rover you can fix with bailing wire".
I will not buy a new car if it is full of restricted , mystery functions and fog lights that require removing the fender to change.

And ..... please for Zeus sakes..... DO NOT ask the government to get involved.

Best

Who Has a "Right to Repair?"

Automobile repair shops have a beef with auto manufacturers over who can repair vehicles. Many repair shops want to replace "programmable" components but the auto companies won't release the details of how to program these devices for fear of opening their intellectual property to all takers. A story in the 10 February 2011 Wall Street Journal explained that after a mechanic replaced a windshield-wiper switch in a 2004 Saab, the car wouldn't start. The switch needed an "initialization" at a Saab dealer.

Politicians have sponsored "Right to Repair" bills that would force auto manufacturers and their suppliers to give independent dealers and part manufacturers the programming instructions, fault codes, and other information that would let them repair vehicles and manufacture replacement parts. Of course, the auto manufacturers spend a lot of money to lobby against such legislation.

If auto vendors want to protect their products, they have the means now. Atmel's CryptoAuthentication devices, for example, provide an inexpensive way to add a serial number and 256-bit secret key to a product. If a system cannot find the serial number or the key, it can take action and alert users or service people to counterfeit components, boards, or subassemblies. The Atmel chips use the NIST SHA-256 standard, basically a hashing algorithm that meets the U.S. Government’s Federal Information Processing Standard. Third-party manufacturers of repair parts could incorporate such security devices in their electronic products and service companies could then authenticate the source and gain access to programming or configuration for the repair part.

I have said for some time that IC manufacturers should reveal the programming information for their devices so engineers, designers, and third-party suppliers could also produce emulator and programmer pods. Perhaps a "Right to Repair" bill would cover that type of information, too. Companies can protect their intellectual property without trying to exert complete control over markets.

The CamCost Paradigm

CC really seems dedicated to the continuation of slavery as an amusing way to organize a company. The Master/Slave concept is often seen in CC actions.

Casual Clothes Day ........
If CC forced a 24/7 dress code on it's employees , many of them would resolve the tension by believing that they wanted to dress like the dress code dictated. If you asked them , they would say " I like to dress this way .... it makes me feel [ professional , confident , powerful ....add an adjective ] . CC is too clever. By having "casual days" the masters living in carpetland remind the employees that they are slaves ; that the employees are subject to the whims of the masters.

Give a name to Goonie
CC has a contest to nickname a ( new ? ) master ......... why ? because CC can. Then to make the contest even more demeaning to the employees , the supervisors chose the content of the contest submissions. What slave doesn't get a kick out this fun ?

All hands meeting
CC announces "an all hands meeting" ....... It turns out that only supervisors are invited to the meeting. This means that the employees ( who actually do the work ) are ...... what ? No-handed ? Beneath notice ? Slaves ? <== my vote goes here

Contest that nobody wins
CC announces a contest where nobody wins ......... Employees are to that they can win an iSomething from Apple. It is not made clear how you could improve your chances of winning. In the end , it does not matter since a winner is never announced. It is likely that Goonie gets the iSomething.

Random , chaotic scheduling
CC carpetland masters have fun jerking the slaves around by changing the slave employee's work schedules at random intervals. They also change the rules at random. They also change the days that employees can expect to be available ( Saturday and Sunday suddenly disappear )

Supervising designed to create a mental implosion
CC supervisors ( under the direction of the masters ) give the employees advice and direction that would drive Gandhi mad.
== Satisfy customers by saying "have a good day" but don't actually solve their problem if it takes more than 3 minutes.
== We want you to be very skilled and knowledgeable .... please don't waste valuable time researching a technical issue.
== Customer satisfaction is very important ... please don't waste valuable time researching a customer's problem.

There is more .... I have to stop for now ..... My brain is shrinking........

Constructing a moderm model for government

I believe I am a rational anarchist. Big government has always failed. BG attracts people who are power mongers. Ideally the world could be organized to emphasize IPPs.* Smaller is better in this case. ( One world government would be a disaster ) Nations can gradually die away. The USA would be a better place if it evolved to a union of 50 states with no federal government. Some states are too large for their own good. ( California is the prime example )

What should Federal and State governments provide ?

Here is a list that I will be expanding on. The best description I have for myself is a "rational anarchist".

Should government provide .........

== Defense of our established gestalt ? This means repelling invaders who would change our way of life.
== Defense of "our" global interests ?
== Save people in other countries from evil ?
== jobs ?
== safety net ?
== healthcare ?
== border control and immigration control ?
== courts and a legal system ?
== regulation of medicine ?
== regulation of communications ?

Love me ... Love me not Photo Radar

What I found out on Thursday ( 2011m02d24 ) is that some people like being saved from a photo radar trap and some do not.
I set up shop upstream from a Denver, CO photo radar trap across from a school. The speed limit dropped from 30mph to 20 mph. Fines were doubled in this area ( I have no idea what the doubled fine would be ) I waved my hand, pointing at the school zone sign and held a sign in my other hand. The sign said "Photo Radar Fines Doubled Ripoff Ahead FUBARgov.US "

One person came out of his house and accosted me. He asked me if I had children. I said" Yes, I have two smart children". He and I traded rude comments and then he left. One person flipped me off as he drove by. About 10-20 people honked or gave me the thumbs up signal.

I will be posting a small video on youtube. Search for "99photoradar" .

2011m02d27 Awesomely great IPPs driving on Highway

I drove to the Denver area MicroCenter and back today. This is from approximately I-70 and Lowell to I-25 and I-225. What a rewarding and inspirational experience. Speeds were up to 76 mph. Drivers were mostly polite. No anchors ( cops or wrecks ). No speed traps. People were driving like rational road warriors.

Donald Boudreaux talks about intelligent puzzle pieces. ( IPPs ) Humans who interact with each other to create great things. This was happening today. The IPPs created one of the most rocking driving experiences i have ever had. IT was overcast with plenty of light. No glare from the sun. Roads were dry. My Mazda Miata was cranking out the RPMs. Yahoooo !

Erasmus & Zarathustra welcome you!

The strategy of this web-log is to incorporate the creative spontaneity of current social networking sites, with a focus on “what I learned today”. Amidst the bloggers’ blogs Erasmus and Zarathustra will show up randomly. Erasmus is a character who believes in the evolution of human species into intelligent creatures capable of side-stepping the temptations to lust after power. Zarathustra is a character who is a Socratic sort of watchdog, critiquing on the bottlenecks that choke off freedom.
